Sold – For A Spaceship, a novel by Philip E. High.

Published in October 1973.

Blurb – Jacket Flap
They had slept in safety while destruction raged above them. When they awoke, however, and emerged from their places of refuge, the world had changed.

There were, of course, the after-effects of destruction – they had expected that, but there was worse. Nothing familiar remained, plants, grasses, trees, all had changed beyond recognition. It was like awakening on the surface of an alien planet.

Man, who for so long had ruled Mother Earth, soon discovered that he was no longer the dominant species. There were other creatures, not only ready to dispute the point but well prepared to prove it.

It was later, much later, that the bulk of mankind discovered that they forfeited their birthright, traded their home, the planet Earth – for a spaceship.
