Invisible Death, a Zarkon, Lord of the Unknown novel by Lin Carter.

Part 2 of Zarkon, Lord of the Unknown series.

Publisher's Blurb – Jacket Flaps
Millionaire recluse Jerrod Streiger cringed in abject terror as he received the last of a series of mysterious gray envelopes.

"You May Expect the Grim Reaper at Twilight" Streiger read as he ripped it open. He expected the message and feared worse its consequences. He quickly gathered his staff about him and alerted the household for protection . . .

Later, amid the pomp and distinction of the exclusive Colbalt Club:

"We were just discussing poor old Streiger's death," remarked Wayne as Zarkon entered. But since his ward Dick had gone off to college, he hadn't seen much of old Streiger, Wayne added.

"Queer, his dying like that," interjected Cranston, a tall, hawk-faced man with hazy, hooded eyes. "Looked as though he would outlast us all." Reid, the wealthy publisher, said his Filipino houseboy Kato believed it was voodoo.

". . . it's an interesting theory!" the dapper and dashing lawyer Brooks agreed. And something he would look into if he wasn't so busy with his far-flung exotic exploits . . ."

Deep in the heart of a great Western metropolis, cults of dark Eastern devil-magic had crept, and found a hidden lair where they grew strong and flourished in secret darkness. All Zarkon knew was that he and the men of Omega were up against their most formidable opponent yet – the Grim Reaper, who could reach for helpless victims behind walls and closed doors, leaving neither trace nor clue with a chilling instrument of evil called Invisible Death . . .

Lin Carter was until recently the Fantasy Editor for Ballantine Books, and has been responsible for bringing to light many long-lost authors and stories. He has himself authored more than thirty-seven fantasy novels and in 1972 received the Nova Award for his contributions. His first volume of the Prince Zarkon adventures, entitled The Nemesis of Evil, is now available.

Extract – Lower Cover
You've heard of Doc Savage. You've heard of the Avenger. Now meet Prince Zarkon of Novenia – the cool, strangely solemn master of many arts, whose life is dedicated wholly to the detection and destruction of high-level crime. His origins, shrouded somewhere in the mists of time, are unknown even to his most trusted cohorts – the men of Omega:

"SCORCHY" MULDOON: the hot-tempered Hibernian, whose love of fighting is matched only by his skill.

NICK NALDINI: the ex stage magician and master of sleight of hand, who now uses his ingenuity on behalf of Zarkon and the cause of justice.

"ACE" HARRIGAN: a top-flight aviator rescued from the brink of suicide by Zarkon and now his dedicated pilot.

"DOC" JENKINS: the mental giant with total recall, who acts as the ambulatory computer for the Omega organization.

"MENLO" PARKER: the gruff electronics wizard and kung fu expert, whose constant grumbling masks a total dedication to Zarkon and the ideal of goodness . . .

They are a formidable crew, but they will be tested to the fullest by a villain called "The Grim Reaper", whose murderous lair hides a maze of death – invisible death . . .
