Contributor Biography
Alan Dean Foster—Writer
Born in New York City in 1946, Alan Dean Foster was raised in Los Angeles. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Master of Fine Arts in Motion Pictures from UCLA.

Alan's writing career began in 1968 when he sold a short story to August Derleth's The Arkham Collector. His first novel, The Tar-Aiym Krang, was published by Ballantine Books in 1972. Since then, he has worked on many successful projects, including screenplays and book adaptations for Star Trek, Dark Star, Star Wars, Alien, Aliens, Clash of the Titans, The Black Hole, and The Thing. Besides publication in English, his work has been translated into all major foreign languages and many minor ones, from Russian to Flemish and Hebrew.

Alan lives with his wife, JoAnn, six dogs, three cats, assorted fish, a salamander, and a boa constrictor, in a house built of bricks salvaged from a turn-of-the-century brothel.
