"A knowledge of paints and their properties plays a vital role in my working life.
When I am not painting military miniatures, I produce covers for science fiction and fantasy magazines and pocketbooks throughout the world.
When painting a cover painting I use a variety of types of paint.
When painting a figure I also use a variety of types of paint. They are, in fact, the same paints!"

As well as drawing and painting science fiction, fantasy and miltary subjects, Eddie Jones collected, manufactured and painted military miniatures. As a long-time member of the British Model Soldier Society, he entered and won a number of national and regional competitions for figures from a range of periods including Ancient History, Napoleonic, Colonial and the 20th Century. He used his extensive library of reference books to paint his figures, and sold some through a model shop in Liverpool. Whether these models were signed is unknown.
The photograph below shows an example of his work that appeared in the Historex military models catalogue in 1973 along with , an article by Eddie Jones discussing acrylic paiints (a new product at the time) and their use for painting of plastic military figures.

"At Model Soldier Society meetings I am invariably asked what paints I use and when I say Acrylics this is met with the raised eyebrow, the pursed lip or the ever pitying smile.
Most figure painters have a favourite medium, some swear by oils, some casein, others gouache and poster paints and some even use model makers enamel but all these mediums have certain limitations. I am yet to find fault with the Acrylics I use."
