The Sphere Science Fiction Classics series issued between 1971 and 1977 brought works of science fiction from as early as 1939 and 1945 together with others from the 1950s and 60s. Initially, all of the cover illustrations for the series were produced by Eddie Jones, but some of the later volumes and reissues of the early books featured cover art by illustrators such as David Hardy, Chris Foss and Bruce Pennington. No new titles were added to the series after 1974.
